Sea, Sand, Me!
Everyone loves going to the beach, right? The beautiful scenes and the salty air brings happiness to all. In Patricia Hubbell's "Sea, Sand, Me!" we read about the fun and beauty of the beach while enjoying accurate illustrations and poetic rhymes.In this short picture book, we follow a young girl who takes a trip to the beach with her family. This book is full of silly words and repetition, such as, "flippy-floppy," "wiggly-waggly," and "dig, dig, dig." The young girl built sandcastles, jumped over waves with her friend, played with her dolls, and bounced beach balls all ending in waving goodbye to the beach. I read this book and thought of how much the young children I work with now would enjoy it; the rhymes are fun and the pictures are bright. I would love to ask questions related to this book about life experiences, such as "have you ever seen the ocean?" When I was young, I loved to write poems along with reading them. I would love to challenge my students to write their own poetry about the beach, or another trip they have taken. I recommend this book to teachers of young students and I would love to hear about other ideas readers have to use this book in their classroom. :)
I love this blog post. I think it will appear to kids and is interesting to read. it makes me want to read the book and have in my future classroom because it is exciting and well written. Having the students write their own poetry would be a great idea to do after the book. The illustrations are cute too so that's a plus!

ReplyDeleteGood post Madi! I loved the idea of basing your students class work off of the book you introduced. I also like how you can relate the book to their life experiences by engaging them in conversation. I feel like this would be enjoyable to the students!
ReplyDeleteMaddi I love the book you chose it was super cute and it sounds like it would be a fun read for the classroom and I loved how you mentioned that you wanted to incorporate it in your classroom one day, I know I’d love to be your student if I was a kid. But over all good chose of poetry book and I love how pink your blog is it fits you lol !
ReplyDeleteGreat post Madi! I love that this book allows the students to get involved and consume an idea of the beach atmosphere. It introduces them to real life experiences. I think that the colorful pictures and silly words is a creative way of getting the children engaged into the activity. I feel that this book is amazing for both boys and girls. They can all relate and I believe that they would really enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a beach person, but hey whatever floats your boat. More importantly it is what floats the classroom boat. I find it neat that the book can connect the beach, a real world place, with rhymes and other things. Depending on where you are teaching the beach could be a place that students can easily connect to, or a place that the majority of your students have never been. Nice job.
